HIKMAH (WISDOM) PEDAGOGY OF PHILOSOPHICAL INQUIRY
Course Descriptions & Outline
Instructor: Rosnani Hashim (IIUM)
August-September 2020
The Islamic civilization has been a pioneer of many of the modern ‘foreign’ sciences since it came into contact with other civilizations during the Abbasid era. But it has declined ever since the fall of Baghdad in 1258 and culminated in being colonized from the 16th century onwards. Muslims had ever since attempted to revive its vigor and reclaim its place beginning with the Islah movement of the 19th century. Our leaders and scholars have called for physical liberation from the Western clutches, Islamization of Education, Islamization/Integration of knowledge and the establishment of ‘real’ Islamic universities ever since. This course focuses on another forgotten micro dimension yet vital, which is related to learning and education that has become more meaningless today. The course deals with reclaiming the Hikmah Pedagogy of philosophical inquiry for all levels of our education in an attempt to give a meaningful learning through multidimensional thinking – critical, creative, ethical and spiritual. Good thinking is important to mobilize and broaden Muslim’ minds to enhance and advance their forward move. The course will be theoretical and practical and the following topics will be discussed and examined.

3. Introduction to philosophy.
4. The soft skills, Hikmah Pedagogy (HP) and its successes
